Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Parent Participatory Preschool?
At The School of Grace, parents agree to help in their child’s classroom one to two times per month. On their “Helping Parent Day,” the parent and child bring the snack for the class. The child is designated as the “Helping Child” and is honored with special responsibilities, along with the joy of sharing their day with a parent, grandparent, or special family friend. Parents are actively involved in the school as they serve on a committee and have the opportunity to serve on the parent majority Board of Directors.
What Classes Are Available?
The School of Grace is a half-day preschool serving children ages 6 months through 5 years. All of the classes are multi-age, which encourages a family-style atmosphere.
Classes are as follows:
- Infant/Toddler (Turtle Class)-1 to 2 days per week, 6 students.
- Two/Three Year Olds (Tadpole Class)- 2 or 3 days per week, 9 students.
- Three/Four Year Olds (Frog Class)- 3 or 5 days per week, 12 students.
- Four/Five Year Olds (Owl Class)- 5 days per week, 13 students.
All classes are staffed by an experienced teacher and teaching assistant. Each class has a reserved space for a child with special needs and/or a child from a refugee family. These spaces are reserved until August 1st.
What is the curriculum focus?
At The School of Grace, we believe that children learn best through play, so the learning is incorporated into the natural curiosity of each child. Children are encouraged to make choices and learn from the effects of their choices. Teachers provide hands-on experiences and allow the children to explore the possibilities! As a Christian program, children (except for Infant/Toddler) participate in an interactive Chapel service once a week. We follow The Creative Curriculum.
